Dedicated, experienced CSS inspectors

At the core of the CSS program are our highly qualified inspectors. Your organization or business is matched with an inspector, who is dedicated to your site(s). In addition:

  • Inspectors have a minimum of 12 years field experience, undergo a rigorous hiring criteria, and take extensive ESA training before servicing CSS customers.
  • Inspectors prioritize a strong working relationship with you, getting to know the unique needs of your site, staff, and business. They offer 1:1 support, advice, and guidance. We don’t just want to keep you safe and compliant—we are here to help keep you competitive too.
  • Your inspector is deeply familiar with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, helping you stay ahead of any compliance or safety issues before they become problematic.
  • Inspectors pre-arrange site visits based on your schedule.
  • Your inspector is prompt and responsive, readily available by phone or email.

CSS online logbook

All CSS customers gain 24/7 access to an online logbook, which helps organize and streamline code-related paperwork. It also helps inspections run more smoothly and efficiently, as your inspector can quickly access and review required documentation in the moment.

A reminder of facility safety requirements

Apart from being safe, efficient and cost-effective, the CSS Program is here to keep Ontario businesses on the right side of the law. Per the OESC, facility owners and operators are required to regularly maintain and repair electrical systems to ensure they are in safe working order. They are also required to ensure electrical work is done by qualified staff and/or Licensed Electrical Contractors and that any necessary notifications are obtained to facilitate review of the electrical work by the Electrical Safety Authority.

Business owners and operators have a responsibility to:

  • Create a safe work environment.
  • Record all routine electrical maintenance activities (See OESC Rule 2-003, Record of Electrical Installation Work).
  • Inspectors conducting regular safety audits in your facility shall have access to these records.
  • Keep all operating electrical equipment in safe working condition. If it is defective, you must fix or permanently disconnect it. (See OESC Rule 2-300 General Requirements for Maintenance and Operation)
  • Customers, businesses, and Licensed Electrical Contractors are all required to fix electrical deficiencies as soon as possible

ESA provides some types of electrical wiring work considered non-regulatory services. Find out more about these services.
