Authorized Contractor Program

The Authorized Contractor Program (ACP) provides a process for recognizing Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) compliant work performed by a contractor based on current practices and previous work for specific types of electrical work/installations.

 ACP offers Program verticals for:

  • Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) – Residential only
  • Residential
  • Commercial/Industrial, including Agricultural and Institutional
  • Pole Line Maintenance
  • Substation Maintenance


Each Vertical has unique:

  • Scope of Work
  • Required qualifications
  • Fees
  • Parameters for pre-authorized connections (where applicable)
  • Audit ratios


Specific types of work/locations are excluded from ACP and require 100% inspection:

  • Apartment buildings
  • Fire alarm systems
  • Fire, Flood, Lightning strike – any work after
  • Ground source heat pumps (geo-thermal)
  • Hazardous locations
  • High voltage installations
  • Generators, transfer switches & associated equip.
  • Hot tubs, spas
  • Section 24 installations (patient care areas)
  • Solar panels, photovoltaic installations
  • Swimming pools
  • Temporary wiring
  • Trade shows
