Who is Involved in ESA?

This section provides general information about those involved in the review process. The Statutory Director and the Review Panel are those who conduct hearings, review and render decisions on matters related to licensing, the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Electrical Distribution Safety, and Product Safety.

Statutory Directors

Directors are appointed by the ESA under subsection 9(1) of the Safety and Consumer Statues Administration Act, 1996(excluding the Director of Licensing and Certification).

Director of Appeals
The Director of Appeals is appointed by ESA for the purpose of administering the appeals process. The Director of Appeals’ function is to ensure that the appeals process is fair and transparent.  This function is separate from the role of the Statutory Directors within ESA.

Registrar Licensing and Certification (“the Director”)
The Statutory Director, under Part VIII, s. 113.3 (1) of the Electricity Act, 1998, conducts hearings and renders decision(s) on licensing matters.

Provincial Code Engineer (“the Director”)
The Provincial Code Engineer is appointed as a Statutory Director and conduct hearings, reviews and renders decision(s) related to Orders issued by ESA or the non-issuance of an Order by ESA under the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.

General Manger Utility Regulations (“the Director”)
The Statutory Director conduct hearings, reviews and renders decision(s) related to Orders issued by ESA or the non-issuance of an order by ESA, under the Ontario Electrical Distribution Safety Regulation (O. Reg. 22/04)

Product Safety (“the Director”)
The Statutory Director conduct hearings, reviews and renders decision(s) related to Orders issued by ESA or the non-issuance of an order by ESA, under the Ontario Product Safety Regulation (O.Reg.438/07).
