Fees

ESA is a not-for-profit, self-funded organization. We charge for inspections and other services to support electrical safety education, enforcement, and operating expenses, such as:

  • processing notifications of work (“Permits”)
  • inspecting wiring work
  • enforcing the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) and investigating violations
  • combating the underground economy
  • updating the OESC to reflect technology and market changes
  • educating Ontarians about safe electrical work

Notice of ESA 2026 Fee Changes

To respond to inflationary pressures, the ESA will be increasing wiring and licensing fees by 1.9%, effective April 1, 2026.

This increase reflects the inflationary pressures that the ESA, and many organizations, are facing, while continuing to deliver on the ESA’s important mandate for sector and public education while investing in operational efficiencies through our digital strategy.

The ESA Fee Guide is in process of being updated, and will be posted prior to April 1 implementation.

The ESA recognizes the impact that fee changes put on our stakeholder community and ESA will continue to drive value, through ESA ON Mobile App and the Licensing Technology Platform, by strengthening service delivery to stakeholders and the sector.
