Ministry of Government and Consumer Services Consultations

Administrative Monetary Penalties Proposal

The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services (MGCS) undertook a consultation on the proposed use of Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs) as a tool to help enforce Ontario’s consumer protection and public safety statutes.

The consultation began on Oct. 28, 2013 and ended on Dec. 12, 2013.

ESA has provided our comments in response to this consultation, which is based on the AMPs concept as proposed by the Ministry.  ESA has not carried out a detailed analysis of how AMPs could or would be implemented in each area of ESA’s regulatory responsibility, nor have we consulted directly with our own stakeholders on this possibility.  Our comments are limited to the broad concept as proposed. To review a copy of our submission please see ESA AMPs Consultation Submission
