Risk-based Oversight

ESA is moving to a risk management approach for electrical wiring by 2020. ESA will spend more physical inspection effort on higher risk electrical wiring work, and less effort on lower risk work, while not compromising safety.

Risk-based Oversight (RBO) and what it means for LDCs

On March 28, ESA held an RBO webinar for LDCs. The one hour-long webinar introduced RBO and ESA’s plans for implementation, followed by a Q&A session.

Background

ESA is moving to a risk-based approach for electrical wiring in early 2020. This means ESA will spend more effort on higher risk electrical wiring work, and less effort on lower risk work, without compromising safety. ESA will use risk criteria to determine what wiring work requires a site visit.

All electrical contractors will operate under this system in early 2020, and ESA will no longer administer the Authorized Contractor Program (ACP).
